Good ideas can come from anyone. Listening to and uplifting voices who are often ignored is one of the key values of @outreachy
There are so many ideas that have improved the Outreachy program that have come from Outreachy applicants and interns.
One idea was to have a chat server for Outreachy participants. Interns wanted this so they could connect to other interns. But it also helped mentors too!
The Outreachy chat server helped break down silos between different #OpenSource communities.
Mentors from one community would ask on the Outreachy chat how to handle a newcomer onboarding issue, and the next thing you know, three different communities are sharing best practices and helping each other overcome challenges.
The collaboration and knowledge sharing spirit of the FOSS community is what sustains me in these hard times. That's why it's important to me that @conservancy continues its mission of supporting software freedom.
