#OnThisDay 21 years ago, I apparently did the final mixes for my favorite track of the project, "Remember".
The song was written by Jody Moore (Lynne's youngest son), a very talented songwriter and guitarist; he plays acoustic and sings lead on this track -- but unfortunately he had a cold on the day we recorded, and we were out of time to schedule another date, so I smoothed it the best I could with effects.
The religion is much more incidental in this song -- allusions to reincarnation are about as far as it goes.
We had Bubba's drums all mic'ed up for the best possible audio quality -- but what with the tight recording schedule, he kept (understandably) getting anxious and flubbing his performance, and eventually we gave up and decided to leave it without.
So I did a mix without the drums and we were all listening to that on the big speakers while I dismantled the mics -- and he started playing along with that... and pretty much nailing it.
Fortunately, I had a couple of ambient mics still hooked up, so the next run-through when I was "playing it back" I actually recorded him.
That became the drum track for this final mix.
The crash-sound at the end is a bit of a mystery -- I think it must be some small noise on the guitar that got highlighted by the effects I used -- but I couldn't definitively track it down at the time. I originally removed it from the mix, but the band wanted it included -- so here it is.
I've no idea what Jody is doing these days; I know he had a band down in Florida for awhile, and they were pretty good... but there are too many people on the internet with that name, and I couldn't find him when I did a search just now.
It's really quite a pretty song, don't you think?
...and then Masto converts my OGG file to an MP3? o.0
Okay, next time I'll just upload an MP3. Sheesh.
@woozle it has a very lovely sound to it; thanks for sharing!
