If you post flashing or fast moving gifs, mark them as NSFW and put a warning in the text. Using a CW does not hide the image, so you need to use the NSFW function.
Do not use flashing or fast moving gifs as your avatar.
Observe those rules & reblog to save a life
and I mean that literally, flashing, strobing or fast moving gifs can trigger seizures and seizures can be life threatening
@cripcat One of the reasons why the NSFW button is a touch misleading, and why there's something to change it. Might happen, might not.
Still, if it prevents any incidents, I'm all for using whatever you call it to prevent an issue.
There is a tool for checking for epiletic-risky areas of a GIF or a video, don't remember what it's called.
@squeakycheetah yeah though these checking tools only check for specific parameters, but epilepsy can get triggered by other things outside of these parameters too
@cripcat also FYI you can disable gif autoplay in your settings!
@clar I know, and I have, but it's not possible on every client & the onus should not be on disabled people to protect themselves from others being careless
@cripcat oh I absolutely agree; in fact I think that animated GIFs are an accessibility nightmare and should never be on by default and that it's super ableist to share flashy moving stuff without tags
although also the option is not publicised and I think it's something that disabled people should know about as a layer of protection from people who don't tag their stuff
@clar okay! 😊
@cripcat very thoughful PSA. Thank you!
