#ScribesAndMakers Apr 5: If you sell your work, how do you decide on a price? Do you offer sale prices?

I'm fortunate enough not to depend on that revenue stream. I've set the price as low as feasible to still make a pittance. I figure a debut author with a weird premise needs to make things cheap enough that people will consider take a risk.

But it's the first thing I'm proud enough of to make a go at selling it.

Poll time!

I'm publishing my first middle grade (MG) story, and need to set a price for the PRINT format. It will be 5x8 inches trim size, with 104 story pages.

I don't have kids, so I'm not sure how to price it. If you have middle schoolers, enjoy reading MG stories, or publish your own MG fiction, what's an acceptable price?

Has anyone heard of, or worked with, Fireside Audio? Supposedly, they're a production company that focuses on audio book narration.

Their website seems legitimate, but I received a cold contact from them, which is usually a sign that they're a scam or otherwise fraudulent.

(Not that it matters, I guess. I don't plan to do audiobooks until next year, when the series is complete.)

#PennedPossibilities 629. How did you break into publishing? (If you’re already published, of course.)

I queried for a while, but only a couple nibbles. the premise is weird, and honestly, I suspect agents were dubious it could be tackled by a cis/het white male middle class engineer. 🤷

So, self-publishing. First Amazon, but as of today I've gone wide via Draft2Digital. (Including Hoopla, so... free.)
