I'm thinking I should have all of the alternatives in a file somewhere and just rotate through them every time the page is recached...
@woozle we need to fit the 'anyone can edit' aspect in the HT letters of HTYP.
@zyabin101 ...after I figure out a way to make that true again. (Had to disable anon editing/signups years ago because of spambots.)

May I suggest negative captchas. In mission critical forms, put honeypot fields (with `display: none`), and let spambots fill them. Whoever fills a honeypot field loses.

I've been playing with anti-spam techniques for years... the one that actually seems to work best is to generate a random number between 1000 and 9999, spell it out in English (e.g. three thousand two hundred and twenty-seven) and ask the user to enter in the digits.
Unfortunately a few still slip in per year, and I don't have the time to deal with even that level of spam at the moment (I often don't notice it until much later). <irony>I need a community...</irony>
I *think* the way it works with ActivityPub is that I have to request certain permissions from the server, and all I really need is to see the user's profile to verify they exist. No need to get post-reading permission.
apparently one can make an app with no scope
