(B) @emsenn's toot elsewhere (direct) about (to drastically oversimplify) how our ideas of a better future have been overwhelmed by a hierarchy-driven flood of stagnationist propaganda (as discussed by David Graeber: "Of Flying Cars and the Declining Rate of Profit" and exemplified by Robin Hanson's highly questionable "Our Brave New Merged World")
I haven't finished reading any of the referenced articles, however.

Gates does at least seem to be trying to honestly grapple with the problem, though his ideas about it may be less of interest than the glimpse this offers of the tech-cultural lenses through which he is viewing it.
