You know those "trad wife" influencers who live on farms and post about their perfect lives? A new study is out suggesting their lives are actually miserable https://skepchick.org/2024/11/trad-wife-farmers-actually-lead-horrible-lives/
@rebeccawatson That's because tradwifery is a form of kink falling under the masochism umbrella.
@riley @rebeccawatson I can't say that I'm shocked.
At best it's fetishistic nostalgia for an Americana that never existed.
At worst it's forced dominance and submission through cultural and religious conformity.
I once saw someone describe the TradWife movement as "Dom/Sub lifestyle for the polite Christian."
The whole thing makes me think that too many Americans are unable to move on from their puritanical origins.
@viralobscurity @riley @rebeccawatson it’s 100% manufactured nostalgia. The John Wayne propaganda is deeeeep in the American psyche.
Btw, book suggestion: Jesus and John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation by Kristin Kobes Du Mez (she/her). A very intriguing thread in the complex tapestry of right-wing propaganda seeping through the American psyche.
@viralobscurity Not enough tradwives have established proper safewords. @rebeccawatson
@riley @rebeccawatson they are most likely Republicans. There are no safe words. Just all control, all of the time
@viralobscurity @billyjoebowers @riley @rebeccawatson It's amazing how Puritanism is always there in the background.
@riley @rebeccawatson It's reminding me a lot of "Christian Domestic Discipline" https://gretachristina.typepad.com/greta_christinas_weblog/2007/09/christian-spank.html
@riley @rebeccawatson Who called them Trad Wives instead of Stepford Goreans?
