Started installing #Redox yesterday on MacOS. I downloaded libc and started setup.sh before bed. This morning I found the setup failed with some automake failure.

@superruserr What I like about Redox:

* lightweight microkernel of around 15k lines of code (in contrast to Linux with 25m)
* written in Rust
* own non-POSIX shell
* own window manager
* full-blown OS and not just a kernel

@stefan To tinker around with the OS or to use for production purposes?

@superruserr To tinker around. Redox looks already promising, but it has still a long way to go, to get production ready.

@stefan If you are doing a review about it, let us know :)

@RyuKurisu @superruserr Will do! But first I have to get #Redox up and running - I have never built an operating system from source before.

@stefan @RyuKurisu Been a while since I last tinkered with a completely newly developed OS.

Just came across this github.com/redhuntlabs/RedHunt based on Lubuntu and could be a nice one to try for #infosec.

I would very much like to try SailfishOS, but it is only available on few devices currently. But it has the advantage over Ubuntu Touch that it actually supports Android apps (and I can't seem to persuade anyone to switch from WhatsApp).

Plasma Mobile from @kde is another hot contender on my shortlist of OSes I'd like to try on my phone.

@RyuKurisu porting Sailfish OS should be (depending on the device) relatively easy, at least I think they have documented the procedure.

@RyuKurisu actually I think the coming 3.0 version scheduled for the end of the year will have more devices than now in support.
If you are even more curious: they give out the full source code to licensees (customers just get the public part).
