Today I'm work listening to Savages. They're pretty cool.

Due to depression and stuff have not watched a single episode of anime in more than 2 months, so many things are unfinished, and then there is a whole new season starting. I'm currently thinking about to continue to watch things and maybe post occasional screenshots and reactions there? Dunno. At least, I'll post screenshots of cats, that's for sure!

Local/federated timelines look strangely cosy. I remember times in LiveJournal when a) there was a single feed of all new entries, b) if you was a paid user you could see a “friends of friends” feed that was kinda similar to what local/federated timelines are there to offer. But now, thinking of it, it would be really fun to have your own timeline in mastodon federated from only those who you follow. Could be a great way to discover new people.

The best thing in volunteering for cat shelter is the process of socialising feral cats. Takes a lot of time and patience, but obtaining new friends is incredibly rewarding.

That's Simone, she was really shy and scared of humans, always hiding in a corner, now she is still a bit shy, but started to love bell rubs.

Ok, don't really know how it would go and what I'll want to write there, so I'll just go drink some tea and would go to sleep. ← that was an example of content that I was mostly posting in my LJ, like, if I'll think about all the angsty posts ending with “and now I'l go drink some tea”, the number should be astonishing.

Aha! So, the “private” toots are visible only to those on the same instance (unless you use mentions), which makes them completely unusable for me at least? Hmm. The decision behind that can be understandable from the security standpoint, but the obscurity of this fact and that it renders the feature to unusable are sad.

Hmm, the “status privacy” options there work in a rather strange way. The “private” one that is shown to “followers” and not “those who you follow” is really confusing. Like, why?.. Does it really work in that way? And if so, does that really mean that you could mine all the “private” toots from people who didn't mark their accounts as private? (by following, grabbing all the new stuff, unfollowing, repeat)

Ok, so it seems cross-instance functionality is still rather rough here. Like, profiles have incomplete info (followers/following/toots) for those on foreign instances, and also saw a boost (“retweet”) that originally had image in it, but there was no image at the “Home” timeline. Still, overall impressive that it all works anyway, haha.

It is fun that most of the first posts for everyone are meta (which is completely understandable and fine of course), it is interesting to think what are the prerequisites for people to start posting more common stuff. For myself, I think I just need to start post something? Cat pics? Old livejournal-style (rip for the nth-time) diary? Hmmm!

Do I understand right that “Direct” toots are visible only to those who are mentioned in them + myself? So, basically, its kinda possible to use them for notes/diary stuff without mentioning anyone? Don't see a way to filter stuff in a timeline (at least for myself) based on the given security. Also, it seems search don't work for those direct messages, so no way to organize them using hashtags or something similar ATM. Still interesting.

Hello, world? Being a bit fed up with twitter for a long time, seeing Mastodon have individual tweet privacy settings is refreshing. Love the ability to set the default privacy to “unlisted”. 500 symbols for a “toot” is a nice number also. I'll see how it goes. Hi.
