LRT, nazis, french plays

LRT my french teacher in HS had us read "Rhinoceros" the play that ContraPoints is riffing on. in it, people who have become sympathetic to naziism literally turn into rhinos, while the dwindling non-rhinos stand aghast at the normalization of the metamorphosis.

in the last year it has never left my thoughts.

see also: this passage from sartre's "anti semite and the jew".

"Never believe the Anti Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies."

liberals believe words have power, but fascists know words are cheap.

at this point i believe fascism represents an enduring crisis at the heart of liberal nationhood. malcom harris discusses it here:

> Modern liberal states have never truly reconciled their racial character with their democratic pretensions. I’m not clear on how such a thing could be possible; where would a truly pluralist state draw its borders and why?

LRT, nazis, scottish witch trials

i've been studying up on scottish witch trials over the last few months, and it's striking as an examination of early modern white supremacy. proto-secular governments struck implicit deals with all manner of xtians in order to wipe away undesirables like country doctors and people who could read. IMO the burning times were necessary to the formation of the modern state, and illustrate the crisis at its heart.
