The Mastodon repo should have changed from master to trunk

with Near and now the Audacity fork, I really should drop out of the internet from my probably easily doxable real name and install qubes os and create ten different identities and whatnot

but, like, it takes a long time and i really don't want to deal with it, even though i should.

it's like doing backups, not doing them until i need them is gonna bite me in the ass someday i just know it

The person who started the initiative to fork Audacity has stepped down, due to IRL harassments from 4chan.

Dear #foss developers, you encounter an open source project and feel enticed to check out their community. Discord is mentioned as the only place where the discussions take place.

Your reaction?

A - Great, I already have an account anyway.
B - Ok, I'd be willing to join if the project is interesting enough.
C - Not ok, I will not be part of those discussions.
D - Other (see comment)

Boosts appreciated (research for blog post).

#foss developers, which are you:

A- this project is not on github? No problem, I'll make an account on their server and contribute.

B- this project is not on github? Not worth the effort.

Someone should make a "visual" Linux container management system.

Like, imagine opening up a GUI (on your browser or otherwise with a remote client), clicking buttons to create some new containers, putting them in a box to network them, exposing ports by dragging wires around (including to the outside world), and it all just works and you don't need to deal with YAML or commands over SSH

I am sure people more creative than me can figure out more interactions than just "dragging wires". That was the first thing that came to my head

Combine this with something like Traefik, and well made images with environment variables as configuration, and you won't even need to edit any configuration files to deploy something.

Combine that with premade configurations for services and you won't even need to remember or look up environment variables, they will just be listed as options in the UI...

If I knew how, and had the concentration to do so, I would totally work on this, but I don't...

Just realized my impulse second monitor purchase will make my occasional switches to my laptop even worse. A single 1366x768 monitor is way too cramped for me now :(

btw anybody know a reliable way of installing multiple live images on a single disk so that i've a grub menu and i can pick which live image to boot from there?

i have tried an app whose name i forgot some time ago but the partitions it generated didn't boot.

ideally i'd have a disk with LMDE, Xubuntu, Arch, OpenBSD and maybe a couple others with some resque tools. it's annoying that i need multiple USBs when one 32G usb has the space necessary for all I ever need.

:boost_ok: pls

not too serious

So, how long does it take for the 5G microchips in these vaccines to start working? Just got vaccinated and I can't wait for my internet to get faster

Apparently there are already modded ISOs of Windows 11 with the TPM requirement removed...

Unfortunate, isn't it? Having to use third party mods so your OS actually works in your not that old machine?

Would you look at that, the exact same issue I came across, but maybe this time they will finally fix it because it got someone high-profile hacked...

Turns out the ufw firewall I enabled and diligently kept on a strict allowlist with only my internal servers didn’t work on a new server because of Docker. When I containerized MongoDB, Docker helpfully inserted an allow rule into iptables, opening up MongoDB to the world. So while my firewall was “active”, doing a sudo iptables -L | grep 27017 showed that MongoDB was open the world. This has been a Docker footgun since 2014.
