Does the concept of dividing technology in "freestanding" vs. "integrated" ring bells for anyone?
I'm trying to track this down. Thought that #UsulaMFranklin might have been a source, but her Massey Lectures text doesn't include the terms AFAICT.
This might also have been #CharlesPerrow (another of my strong influences).
Or perhaps someone who'd been hosted on either SFI's "Complexity" podcast or the New Books Network.
(I am desperately wishing my podcast app would report podcasts listened to by date. Rather than merely by release date. Sigh.)
Franklin's chief distinction seems to be descriptive and prescriptive technologies.
From her first Massey lecture.
