@vortex_egg Andew L. Shapiro's late 1990s book The Control Revolution addresses this.
It's a bit uneven, but on balance good, and a lot of what I read as naive cluelessness toward the start of the book is addressed and resolved later.
On decentralisation / disintermediation, Shapiro makes the point that most so-called "disintermediation" is actually intermediation with a more centralised point of control. Amazon being a key example of this discussed at length.
