@dredmorbius that shite still hasn't folded?
@dredmorbius TBL is now on the advisory board of an alt-right socnet?
We live in strange times.
@dredmorbius I can't keep up. I thought gab using activitypub and loosely attached to the fediverse with a million users? Have they switched?
@simon I think Gab's now left Mastodon, though I can't find a reference.
And yet, the design of MeWe is such that I've seen none of that in the last years.
This is important.
MeWe, unlike *any other* platform, completely hides you from anyone and anything you don't connect with. What's good for the alt right (unfortunately it is) is also good for everyone else there.
I don't think I've seen anything that feels more like a safe space in years, due to the connections I chose.
@jens And not seeing it means its somehow not present, not tolerated, or not proof of a massive political, ideological, nationalistic, and fascist bias of the platform?
Again: what I reported on is what's highly evident if you start looking around in the slightest.
@dredmorbius Not at all.
You're just describing one side of the coin. I could find the exact same description for the fediverse. I moved to my own instance because within days of joining, I was censored on a mainstream instance for calling out an alt-right account.
It's always worth looking at the upside of things as well as the downsides. The fediverse gives you a choice of instances - MeWe gives you a choice of isolation.
@jens MeWe is indifferent to fascism.
Mastodon and the Fediverse are not.
Why are you defending fascists?
@dredmorbius Oh man 🤦♂️
This. This is why we can't have nice things.
Read a couple of times, if understanding doesn't hit you then, I can't do anything to help you.
@dredmorbius What a timely report! My parents' friends are trying to lure them to these platforms and I had only heard of Parler, so I'm glad to know it's exactly the same but potentially worse.
Not everything is performative morality. Posting wrongthink isn't cause to send someone to the gulags.
If you look for the left-wing forums, I'm sure it has many there, too; though ironically those are mostly on Facebook, which really is run by a right-wing ideologue.

Read the fucking link. I did. It doesn't.
@dredmorbius That's years obsolete data.
I look at all groups now, the politics category has everything from "Berners for Progress", multiple Green Party, some independent groups, and a ton of right-wing groups.
There's also a ton of other non-political groups, like Bourbon Aficionados with 2764 members, more than most of the political groups.
Sir Tim Berners-Lee: Inventor of the World Wide Web.
Is there some dimension of Tim that I'm unaware of here?
@lordbowlich Gullibility, I suspect.
The social network of the future: No ads, no corporate surveillance, ethical design, and decentralization! Own your data with Mastodon!
