Amazon had sales income of €44bn in Europe in 2020 but paid no corporation tax

Our tiny not-for-profit based in Ireland pays tax at the full rate. Meanwhile, Bezos doesn’t know what to do with his money and we don’t know if we can pay the rent next year.

Just found out my package was delivered to my favourite neighbour: "himself himself".

Bill Gates is a lot like a kid who's stolen a packet of biscuits (cookies for you Yanks) and some other kid sees him do it. Bill offers him one biscuit not to tell on him. Except, in Bill's case, the scale's different: rather than a few $ worth of biscuits, it's more like the value of a medium sized country's economy. We need to stop admiring the obscenely wealthy for their gifts to charity. It's not generosity, it's a self-serving reputation laundering write-off.

I saw the term "misinformation fatigue" this morning and it's the most 2020s term I've seen so far in the 2020s.

It's the "truthiness" of the 00s and the "fake news" of the 10s, but this decade it arrived early.

I'm glad that MIT has the courage to dissociate themselves from Jeffrey Epstein and RMS for normalizing the sexually harassing young women. These things were not okay, shouldn't have been suffered in silence, and I hope we can all clear the air and heal.

Now can someone plz call out the Ivy League, Seven Sisters, etc, for not dissociating themselves from their own problematic heroes (Trumps, Clintons, etc) who have way more power than RMS ever did.

Like... Facebook literally evolved out of Harvard hookup/entitlement culture and a Zuck being an abusive creep who didn't care about people's boundaries, and is lauded for it constantly because capitalism. It's so gross. Privileged white boys aren't intrinsically evil; it's just that privileged white boys who want to be evil have a hell of an easier time doing so.

It should not be hard to both listen to marginalized people and also get that the scope of the problem is much bigger than individual problematic humans who can be called out without fear of retribution.

Do not, I repeat do not go to r/badlinguistics and look at all time top voted posts. This is a very serious warning, please abide by it for your own good.

I did not and I'm tooting this from hell. (It's not as bad as they make it seem btw.)

Just enabled window shadows using compton in i3-gaps , and it's weird how nice they are. Like they make looking at the desktop physically easier on my eyes.

I think a lot of people kind of underestimate just how easy _and common_ it was for children to access extremely disturbing content online in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

"And by now, if you run your own servers, if because you say, hey, I want to have some control over what I do, even then people will tell you, you’re crazy, because you should give your service to Amazon or Azure, and they will run them for you."

I remember a time when online mass-surveillance was a crazy conspiracy theory.

Does anyone know of an openly licensed stop word list that includes first names in English?
